Sound/Video Engineer

The Wooster Group is a company of artists based in New York City that makes work for theater, dance, and media. We develop and perform our work at The Performing Garage in Manhattan at 33 Wooster Street. We also bring our work to other venues in New York as well as other theaters around the world on national and international tours.

As a full-time Wooster Group company member, the Sound/Video Engineer will support sound and video artists in the development and production of new work, as well as touring existing productions domestically and internationally. This is primarily a technical position, not a design role. You’ll be responsible for the technical backend systems.

Essential Duties
     • Engineering and maintenance of computer systems for sound and video
          ◦ Sound network maintenance (Dante)
          ◦ Video signal routing with NDI and TouchDesigner
          ◦ Control network maintenance (LAN with Mac and Windows elements)
          ◦ General programming support including Python and SuperCollider

     • Sound and Video Systems supervising
          ◦ Working with the Production Manager to review show riders/plots, advancing sound and video requirements for tours
          ◦ Supervising load ins and outs (hanging television monitors, projectors, speakers, running cable, and troubleshooting signal paths)

Additional responsibilities include:
     • Manage and maintain sound and video equipment inventory, including, but not limited to:
          ◦ Wireless microphones and in-ear monitors
          ◦ Video recording system
          ◦ Cables, accessories, tools
     • Overseeing audio and video recording and show archival documentation

Nice-to-have responsibilities include:
     • Sound editing and mixing for video
     • Video recording and editing
     • Live sound mixing
     • Interactive live video and projection mapping

The ideal candidate will: be comfortable with lightweight rigging using ropes and extension ladders; be able to lift 50 lbs.; be familiar with audio and/or video programming (Ableton, TouchDesigner, SuperCollider, Adobe Creative Suite, Yamaha CL series consoles, Dante, NDI, RealSense, Kinect, OSC networking); have a good ear and eye; and be skilled at interpersonal communication.

Knowledge of the Group’s work is preferable but not required.
