Brace Up!

February 1989–April 2003

Using a translation by Paul Schmidt, Brace Up! sets Anton Chekhov’s Three Sisters in a frame inspired by traditional Japanese theater forms with Chekhov’s maid acting as narrator in the manner of a benshi. The piece features The Wooster Group’s signature use of overlapping media mixing prerecorded images with live action broadcast from the stage and dances.
